Wi‑Fi and updates
After install, LocalOne should live on your home network. The LocalOne-Setup hotspot is turned off once onboarding completes (/etc/localone/setup-complete on the appliance).
Join home Wi‑Fi
- Open the dashboard (browser on the LAN). Try
https://localone.localorhttps://<hostname>.local, or the IP from your router's DHCP list. - If you see certificate warnings, use Trust HTTPS in the header and install LocalOne's CA on that device — traffic is encrypted with LocalOne's own cert, not a public CA.
- Connect Wi‑Fi from the setup flow or network settings when prompted. Prefer 2.4 GHz if the radio is picky; Ethernet always works as recovery.
After a reboot, LocalOne should stay on home Wi‑Fi — not recreate the setup AP. If the setup SSID comes back, onboarding did not finish; complete the wizard or see Troubleshooting.
Find the appliance on the LAN
# From another Linux/macOS machine on the same network
ping localone.local
# or: avahi-browse -art | grep -i localone
# Fallback: check your router's DHCP leases for hostname "localone"Control-plane updates (OTA)
- Dashboard → Updates → Check for updates.
- When a version is available, apply it. LocalOne downloads a signed
update.shfrom the store, verifies checksum + Ed25519 signature, then runs it. - If apply fails (bad store URL, DNS, temporary outage), fix network then use Retry on the Failed tab — retry refreshes the script URL from the store.
Store URL on the appliance defaults to https://marketplace.getlocalone.com (env LOCALONE_STORE_URL). Ubuntu package upgrades are separate — they show under Overview, not the control-plane Updates page.
Quick health checks (on the appliance)
If you have a keyboard/display or SSH later, useful commands:
# Network
ip -br a
nmcli device status # if NetworkManager is in use
# Control plane service
systemctl status localone-control-plane.service --no-pager
# Recent logs
journalctl -u localone-control-plane.service -n 80 --no-pagerNext: Install apps · Troubleshooting
